Mushroom Fields

The Mushroom Fields biome is one of the rarest biomes in the game, sometimes thousands of blocks from spawn, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as a beach & special biome. Its climate is warm and humid, so the Mushroom Fields gets rainfall. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 0.9 and the biome ID minecraft:mushroom_fields.

Its defining terrain features are mycelium ground, giant mushrooms and no hostile mob spawning. One of the rarest biomes. Hostile mobs cannot naturally spawn here, making it the safest biome. Mooshrooms are exclusive to this biome. Mycelium replaces grass.

The Mushroom Fields biome was added to Minecraft in Beta 1.9 Pre-3 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Mushroom Fields you find will shift from world to world.

The Mushroom Fields biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Deep Ocean and Warm Ocean, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.

It is very rare and almost always an isolated island surrounded by ocean, far from other land; explore the sea to find one.

If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:mushroom_fields”, which points you to the nearest Mushroom Fields and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Mushroom Fields on foot: because it is extremely rare, be prepared to cover a lot of ground in search of it, ideally with a fast mount, boat or elytra.

On the peaceful side, the Mushroom Fields biome is home to Mooshroom. The Mooshroom, for example, can be sheared for mushrooms and milked with a bowl for suspicious stew.

What makes the Mushroom Fields special is that the Mooshroom spawns here and almost nowhere else in the game, so this is the biome to visit if you want to find it.

The blocks that give the Mushroom Fields biome its character include Mycelium, Red Mushroom Block, Brown Mushroom Block and Mushroom Stem. Within the Mushroom Fields, Mycelium, Red Mushroom Block, Brown Mushroom Block and Mushroom Stem are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.

No generated structures are tied to the Mushroom Fields biome, so exploring it rewards you with its mycelium ground and scenery rather than buildings to loot. Generation that ignores biome boundaries, such as mineshafts, dungeons and the occasional stronghold, can still be dug up beneath the Mushroom Fields.
