Stony Shore

Rocky coastal biome where mountains meet the ocean. Features steep cliff faces. No passive mobs naturally spawn here.
Overview
The Stony Shore biome is a common biome you will run into often, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as a beach & special biome. Its climate is cool, so the Stony Shore gets rainfall. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 0.2 and the biome ID minecraft:stony_shore.
Its defining terrain features are steep stone cliffs, gravel and rocky coastline. Rocky coastal biome where mountains meet the ocean. Features steep cliff faces. No passive mobs naturally spawn here.
The Stony Shore biome was added to Minecraft in 1.7.2 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Stony Shore you find will shift from world to world.
Where to find it
The Stony Shore biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Windswept Hills, Ocean and Beach, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.
Where mountainous land meets the ocean you get sheer stone-and-gravel cliffs instead of sand.
If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:stony_shore”, which points you to the nearest Stony Shore and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Stony Shore on foot: because it is common, ordinary travel through the Overworld will usually reveal one before long.
Mobs
No mobs spawn naturally in the Stony Shore biome. Passive animals cannot generate here because the stone surface is not a valid spawn block for them, and the open, well-lit terrain of the Stony Shore keeps hostile mobs away too. In practice the only creatures you will meet are those that wander in from Windswept Hills, Ocean and Beach.
Blocks & resources
The blocks that give the Stony Shore biome its character include Stone, Gravel, Andesite, Diorite and Granite. Within the Stony Shore, Stone, Gravel, Andesite and Diorite are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.
Structures & features
No generated structures are tied to the Stony Shore biome, so exploring it rewards you with its steep stone cliffs and scenery rather than buildings to loot. Generation that ignores biome boundaries, such as mineshafts, dungeons and the occasional stronghold, can still be dug up beneath the Stony Shore.
