UncommonoverworldTemperate

Features unique mangrove trees with exposed root systems. Mud blocks generate naturally here. Warm frogs spawn in this biome.

Overview

The Mangrove Swamp biome is an uncommon biome that takes a little searching to find, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as a temperate biome. Its climate is warm and humid, so the Mangrove Swamp gets rainfall. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 0.8 and the biome ID minecraft:mangrove_swamp.

Its defining terrain features are dense mangrove trees, muddy terrain, shallow warm water and mangrove roots. Features unique mangrove trees with exposed root systems. Mud blocks generate naturally here. Warm frogs spawn in this biome.

The Mangrove Swamp biome was added to Minecraft in 1.19 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Mangrove Swamp you find will shift from world to world.

Where to find it

The Mangrove Swamp biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Swamp, Jungle and Beach, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.

It generates in hot, humid regions; look for thickets of mangrove trees standing on tangled stilt roots over mud.

If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:mangrove_swamp”, which points you to the nearest Mangrove Swamp and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Mangrove Swamp on foot: because it is uncommon, ordinary travel through the Overworld will usually reveal one before long.

Mobs

On the peaceful side, the Mangrove Swamp biome is home to Frog and Tropical Fish. The Frog, for example, eats small slimes and magma cubes, with a cold, temperate or warm variant set by the biome it grows up in. Together they make the Mangrove Swamp a useful place to gather food, leather and a catch of fish.

On the dangerous side of the Mangrove Swamp biome, watch for Bee. The Bee pollinates flowers, fills nests with honey and stings only when provoked.

Blocks & resources

The blocks that give the Mangrove Swamp biome its character include Mangrove Log, Mangrove Roots, Mangrove Leaves, Mud, Muddy Mangrove Roots and Mangrove Propagule. Within the Mangrove Swamp, Mangrove Log, Mangrove Roots, Mangrove Leaves and Mud are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.

Players typically visit the Mangrove Swamp biome to collect wood from its trees, which makes it a worthwhile stop for that resource.

Structures & features

No generated structures are tied to the Mangrove Swamp biome, so exploring it rewards you with its dense mangrove trees and scenery rather than buildings to loot. Generation that ignores biome boundaries, such as mineshafts, dungeons and the occasional stronghold, can still be dug up beneath the Mangrove Swamp.
