Meadow

Meadow biome in Minecraft
UncommonoverworldTemperate

A high-altitude grassy biome found on mountain slopes. Lone trees here always have a bee nest. Part of the mountain biome family.

Overview

The Meadow biome is an uncommon biome that takes a little searching to find, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as a temperate biome. Its climate is mild and temperate, so the Meadow gets rainfall. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 0.5 and the biome ID minecraft:meadow.

Its defining terrain features are grassy highlands, scattered flowers and occasional lone oak or birch tree with bee nest. A high-altitude grassy biome found on mountain slopes. Lone trees here always have a bee nest. Part of the mountain biome family.

The Meadow biome was added to Minecraft in 1.18 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Meadow you find will shift from world to world.

Where to find it

The Meadow biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Grove, Snowy Slopes, Forest and Cherry Grove, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.

It sits on highland plateaus and mountain shoulders rather than at sea level, so climb the lower slopes of mountains.

If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:meadow”, which points you to the nearest Meadow and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Meadow on foot: because it is uncommon, ordinary travel through the Overworld will usually reveal one before long.

Mobs

On the peaceful side, the Meadow biome is home to Sheep, Donkey and Rabbit. The Sheep, for example, provides wool that regrows after shearing once it eats grass. Together they make the Meadow a useful place to gather food, leather and other animal drops.

Blocks & resources

The blocks that give the Meadow biome its character include Grass Block, Tall Grass, Allium, Azure Bluet, Cornflower, Oxeye Daisy, Dandelion and Poppy. Within the Meadow, Grass Block, Tall Grass, Allium and Azure Bluet are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.

Players typically visit the Meadow biome to collect wood from its trees and flowers for dyes, which makes it a worthwhile stop for stocking up on several resources at once.

Structures & features

The Meadow biome can generate a Village, a community of trading villagers with farms, an iron golem and beds, where the building palette matches the biome's wood and stone and a Pillager Outpost, a watchtower guarded by pillagers and a captain whose banner triggers the Bad Omen effect.

With Village and Pillager Outpost all able to appear in the Meadow biome, it is well worth exploring thoroughly, as each of these 2 structures offers its own loot and challenges.
