Jagged Peaks

Dramatic jagged mountain peaks reaching extreme heights. Goats spawn here and can knock entities off cliffs. The most dramatic mountain biome.
Overview
The other kind of summit: bare stone broken into spires, dusted with snow, climbing higher than anything else in the Overworld. This is the mountain you see from a long way off.
Goats spawn on the ledges, and they will knock you off one if you stand between them and a run-up. There is no shelter and no soft landing, so bring blocks. Pillager outposts occupy the lower shoulders.
The temperature reads minus 0.7 against 0.9 humidity, freezing, so snowfall instead of rain; rainfall does not reach this height. minecraft:jagged_peaks is uncommon, arrived with the mountains in 1.18, and 1.21 still pushes it through the clouds.
Where to find it
The sharpest tops the Overworld makes. Frozen Peaks, Snowy Slopes and Stony Peaks surround it, all of them on the same mountain.
Look for the sharpest, highest stone summits dusted with snow, often piercing the clouds.
Uncommon, and visible from further off than any other cold biome, because the stone goes up through the cloud layer. Goats live at that height, and it is the fall that kills you rather than the cold. It commonly caps an entire range, so cross any cold mountain country while travelling and that is enough: nowhere flat holds one, and close up the summit is unmistakable.
Mobs
Goats and nothing else. They take the full animal slot, one to three at a time, on ground where every surface has a drop next to it.
A goat rams entities off ledges, and on jagged peaks that is not a quirk but the main cause of death for anyone who climbs without looking behind them. Charge one into a block instead and it drops a goat horn, which is the only reason to seek the fight out. No hostile mob is listed for the biome itself. Per attempt the goat is all of the animals, one to three at a time, and it drops a goat horn when it charges into a block instead of into you.
Blocks & resources
Snow Block, Stone and Snow, and the mix depends entirely on height. The needles are bare Stone where the wind gets at them and Snow Block where it does not, and the loose Snow you walk through sits in between.
There is no ice on this variant, which is the quickest way to tell it apart from the frozen peaks next door in a screenshot. Fire burns itself out faster here as well.
Knowing that before you build saves a climb: you can carry this stone straight into a wall here, and elsewhere on the mountain you would be hauling it uphill.
Structures & features
Pillagers claim the sharpest ground in the game. Their outpost is the single structure that can generate on jagged peaks, one of twelve biomes here where that lookout tower is built, guarded from below and topped by a captain. Kill him and the banner he carries marks you with Bad Omen before you have started climbing down.
Past the tower, the biome offers steep cliffs, snow cover and the peaks themselves rather than loot. Deep under the stone, biome edges count for nothing and the usual mineshaft tunnels, with dungeon rooms leading off them and a stronghold in rare cases, appear anyway. The watchtower is one of the few reasons anyone seeks this ridge out, and finding it means a climb, since the captain whose banner triggers the Bad Omen effect stands in it. That is the main thing to seek up here.
Biome Colors
Minus 0.7 is as cold as the site goes, and this page and the frozen peaks are the only two at it. The palette is the shared snowy one; the music is not, and returns on its own timer. Fire burns out faster up here, which puts it in a group of eight, and there is no fog value, so the view from the summit stays clear.

What generates per chunk
Forty one passes, tied with the frozen peaks for the shortest list in the Overworld. Nothing is planted at all: no tree pass, no grass pass, no flower pass. The frozen lava spring at 20 tries is the only entry that is not part of the standard ore and cave list every chunk gets.
Spawn rules and animal variants
The jagged peaks share the goat and share every cold classification with the frozen peaks next door: cold livestock, cold frogs, white rabbits, snow foxes.
None of the four fires on its own up here, because the goat is the only mob the mountain spawns, and the biome is a stronghold candidate all the same.
Structure depths and forced spawns
The same short list as the frozen peaks: an outpost on top, a mountain portal, mineshafts and the chambers in their -40 to -20 band.
Nothing else stands up here, because a jigsaw village needs flat ground to grow its eighty blocks into and the jagged peaks have none.

How to Find
Sharp summits and steep cliffs are the whole point up here, and from below they look like any mountain, so let the /locate biome lookup give those sharp summits a coordinate instead of a direction:
Sharp rock takes the same key, and requires cheats to be enabled wherever the sharp rock is stored, or operator permissions on a server, before the command hands out a number you can use.
