Basalt Deltas

Volcanic biome with basalt columns and blackstone. Very difficult to traverse due to uneven terrain and lava pockets. Magma cubes spawn at extremely high rates. Ash particles fall from the sky.
Overview
The Basalt Deltas biome is a common biome you will run into often, generated in the Nether dimension and classed as a nether biome. Its climate is scorching (the Nether is uniformly hot, so water evaporates instantly), so the Basalt Deltas gets no precipitation at all and stays permanently dry. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 2 and the biome ID minecraft:basalt_deltas.
Its defining terrain features are basalt columns, blackstone terrain, lava pockets and ash particles. Volcanic biome with basalt columns and blackstone. Very difficult to traverse due to uneven terrain and lava pockets. Magma cubes spawn at extremely high rates. Ash particles fall from the sky.
The Basalt Deltas biome was added to Minecraft in 1.16 and is still generated in version 1.21. As a Nether biome the Basalt Deltas has no day/night cycle, no weather and a permanent lava-lit gloom.
Where to find it
The Basalt Deltas biome generates in the Nether, so you must build and light a Nether portal to reach it. It commonly borders Nether Wastes, Soul Sand Valley and Crimson Forest, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.
Look for a broken volcanic field of basalt columns and blackstone with lava pooled between the rocks and ash drifting down.
If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:basalt_deltas”, which points you to the nearest Basalt Deltas and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Basalt Deltas on foot: because it is common, ordinary travel through Nether will usually reveal one before long.
Mobs
On the peaceful side, the Basalt Deltas biome is home to Strider. The Strider, for example, walks on lava and can be saddled and steered with a warped fungus on a stick.
On the dangerous side of the Basalt Deltas biome, watch for Magma Cube and Ghast. The Magma Cube bounces toward players and splits into smaller cubes that drop magma cream, while the Ghast floats and launches explosive fireballs that can be deflected back at it.
Blocks & resources
The blocks that give the Basalt Deltas biome its character include Basalt, Smooth Basalt, Blackstone and Magma Block. Within the Basalt Deltas, Basalt, Smooth Basalt, Blackstone and Magma Block are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.
In terms of mining, blackstone is gathered here, and ancient debris generates more commonly than in other Nether biomes.
Structures & features
The Basalt Deltas biome can generate a Nether Fortress, the only place blazes spawn and the source of nether wart for brewing and a Bastion Remnant, a ruined piglin stronghold packed with gold blocks, piglins and the rare Pigstep music disc.
With Nether Fortress and Bastion Remnant all able to appear in the Basalt Deltas biome, it is well worth exploring thoroughly, as each of these 2 structures offers its own loot and challenges.
