Crimson Forest

The Crimson Forest biome is a common biome you will run into often, generated in the Nether dimension and classed as a nether biome. Its climate is scorching (the Nether is uniformly hot, so water evaporates instantly), so the Crimson Forest gets no precipitation at all and stays permanently dry. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 2 and the biome ID minecraft:crimson_forest.

Its defining terrain features are crimson fungi, crimson nylium, shroomlights and weeping vines. A red-themed fungal forest. Hoglins are the only hostile mob that drops food in the Nether. Piglins can be bartered with for various items. Shroomlights provide excellent light.

The Crimson Forest biome was added to Minecraft in 1.16 and is still generated in version 1.21. As a Nether biome the Crimson Forest has no day/night cycle, no weather and a permanent lava-lit gloom.

The Crimson Forest biome generates in the Nether, so you must build and light a Nether portal to reach it. It commonly borders Nether Wastes, Soul Sand Valley and Warped Forest, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.

Look for a dense red forest of crimson fungi and nylium glowing with shroomlights.

If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:crimson_forest”, which points you to the nearest Crimson Forest and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Crimson Forest on foot: because it is common, ordinary travel through Nether will usually reveal one before long.

The hostile life of the Crimson Forest biome is led by Zombified Piglin, Piglin and Hoglin. The Zombified Piglin ignores players until one is struck, then the whole pack swarms, while the Piglin barters golden items for random goods and turns hostile if you open a chest or mine gold nearby.

The blocks that give the Crimson Forest biome its character include Crimson Nylium, Crimson Stem, Crimson Hyphae, Shroomlight, Weeping Vines, Nether Wart Block, Crimson Fungus and Crimson Roots. Within the Crimson Forest, Crimson Nylium, Crimson Stem, Crimson Hyphae and Shroomlight are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.

Players typically visit the Crimson Forest biome to collect fungal stems for wood, which makes it a worthwhile stop for that resource.

The Crimson Forest biome can generate a Nether Fortress, the only place blazes spawn and the source of nether wart for brewing and a Bastion Remnant, a ruined piglin stronghold packed with gold blocks, piglins and the rare Pigstep music disc.

With Nether Fortress and Bastion Remnant all able to appear in the Crimson Forest biome, it is well worth exploring thoroughly, as each of these 2 structures offers its own loot and challenges.
