Pale Garden

The Pale Garden biome is a rare biome that can require travelling a long way to locate, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as an underground biome. Its climate is mild and temperate, so the Pale Garden gets rainfall. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 0.7 and the biome ID minecraft:pale_garden.

The Pale Garden biome was added to Minecraft in 1.21.4 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Pale Garden you find will shift from world to world.

The Pale Garden biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Dark Forest and Forest, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.

Look for a grey, colourless woodland of pale-oak trees hung with pale moss; it generates as a patch within or beside dark forests.

If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:pale_garden”, which points you to the nearest Pale Garden and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Pale Garden on foot: because it is rare, be prepared to cover a lot of ground in search of it, ideally with a fast mount, boat or elytra.

The hostile life of the Pale Garden biome is led by Creaking. The Creaking freezes when looked at and can only be destroyed by breaking its Creaking Heart.

What makes the Pale Garden special is that the Creaking spawns here and almost nowhere else in the game, so this is the biome to visit if you want to find it.

The blocks that give the Pale Garden biome its character include Pale Oak Log, Pale Oak Leaves, Pale Hanging Moss, Pale Oak Planks and Creaking Heart. Within the Pale Garden, Pale Oak Log, Pale Oak Leaves, Pale Hanging Moss and Pale Oak Planks are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.

Players typically visit the Pale Garden biome to collect wood from its trees, which makes it a worthwhile stop for that resource.

No generated structures are tied to the Pale Garden biome, so exploring it rewards you with its pale oak trees and scenery rather than buildings to loot. Generation that ignores biome boundaries, such as mineshafts, dungeons and the occasional stronghold, can still be dug up beneath the Pale Garden.
