Dappled Forest

Uncommon and temperate, Dappled Forest generates in the Overworld under minecraft:dappled_forest, temperature 0.6.

Expect to travel before the Dappled Forest shows up on the map.

Poplar trees in red, orange and yellow, fallen poplar logs, shelf mushrooms on the trunks and patches of red shrub. An autumn forest from the Wilderness Bound drop, found near cold biomes. Poplar trees in three leaf colours grow here, some of them fallen, with shelf mushrooms on the trunks and red shrubs on the orange grass. Farm animals spawn in their cold variants, and the biome has its own Abandoned Camp.

Rain rather than snow: that follows from 0.6 temperature and 0.6 humidity.

The climate next door decides where it stops. The Dappled Forest came into the game in 26.3.

Dappled Forest is an Overworld biome and generates nowhere else. It tends to sit among other temperate biomes.

Being uncommon, it turns up on its own soon enough: ordinary travel through the Overworld will reveal one before long.

Harmless company here: sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, rabbits and foxes. The Sheep, for example, provides wool that regrows after shearing once it eats grass. Pigs give porkchops; chickens give chicken and feathers; cows give beef and leather; rabbits give rabbit meat, rabbit's feet and rabbit hide.

Counted per spawn attempt, Fox is 1 in 12 of the animals, 2 to 4 at a time. Behind it, Rabbit 1 in 12 and Chicken a fifth.

The Dappled Forest is built from Poplar Log, Red Poplar Leaves, Orange Poplar Leaves, Yellow Poplar Leaves, Shelf Mushroom and Red Shrub. Start with Poplar Log, Red Poplar Leaves, Orange Poplar Leaves and Yellow Poplar Leaves.

People come for wood from its trees, and leave with a full inventory of it.

Nowhere else in the world generates Orange Poplar Leaves, Poplar Log, Red Poplar Leaves, Red Shrub and Yellow Poplar Leaves.

The Dappled Forest biome can generate an Abandoned Camp, a deserted tent and campfire with chests and barrels, where every chest holds a map to another camp.

Finding the Abandoned Camp is one of the main reasons to seek out the Dappled Forest biome.

Counting only what the spawn list can give you, Dappled Forest yields 9 drops: mutton, porkchops, chicken, feathers, beef, leather, rabbit meat, rabbit's feet and rabbit hide.

The heaviest roll in Dappled Forest is Sheep at 25 percent of the animal draw, which makes mutton the easiest thing to gather here. Behind it in the same draw come Pig on 20.8 percent for porkchops, Chicken on 20.8 percent for chicken and feathers and Cow on 16.7 percent for beef and leather.

The dappled forest is where poplar grows, so it is the only source of poplar logs and of red, orange and yellow poplar leaves, and with them the whole poplar wood set. A poplar sapling grows into any of the three colours, and fallen poplar logs lie ready to chop.

Shelf mushrooms grow on the trunks, bounce you like a bed and cook into stew like other mushrooms. Cows, pigs and chickens here come in their cold variants, and each dappled forest can hold its own Abandoned Camp.

The dappled forest came to both editions in the Wilderness Bound drop. On Java it runs at temperature 0.6 with a downfall of 0.6, and that climate is what keeps it close to the cold biomes it borders.

The colours are what make it stand out: #DF6827 for the grass and #E68E30 for the leaves on Java, the orange that covers the whole forest floor.

Dappled Forest arrived in 26.3 with the name it still carries, and Dappled Forest has kept it through all 1 releases since.
