Sulfur Caves

Underground and uncommon: that is Sulfur Caves in two words. The Overworld carries it, minecraft:sulfur_caves names it, 0.8 is its temperature.

Expect to travel before the Sulfur Caves shows up on the map.

Bands of sulfur and cinnabar in the walls, sulfur pools with potent sulfur, sulfur spike stalactites and stalagmites and sulfur springs on the surface above. An underground biome from the Chaos Cubed drop. The caves are banded with sulfur and cinnabar, and pools of water hide potent sulfur that sends up bubbles and, over lava or magma, geysers. The sulfur cube spawns here more often than any other monster, and the biome has its own music.

Added in 26.2. The climate next door decides where it stops.

Stay in the Overworld: that is the only place a Sulfur Caves forms. It tends to sit among other underground biomes.

Being uncommon, it turns up on its own soon enough: ordinary travel through the Overworld will reveal one before long.

Nothing here is friendly: sulfur cubes and cave spiders. The Sulfur Cube absorbs a block you hold out to it, takes on how that block bounces and slides, and splits into two smaller cubes when killed, while the Cave Spider spawns in this biome.

Counted per spawn attempt, Sulfur Cube is a third of the hostile spawns, 2 to 4 at a time. Behind it, Cave Spider 1 in 16.

No generated structures are tied to the Sulfur Caves biome, so exploring it rewards you with its bands of sulfur and cinnabar in the walls and scenery rather than buildings to loot. Generation that ignores biome boundaries, such as mineshafts, dungeons and the occasional stronghold, can still be dug up beneath the Sulfur Caves.

Everything that spawns in Sulfur Caves is worth something. Between them the mobs here drop 2 different things: spider eyes and string.

6.4 percent of the monster draw in Sulfur Caves goes to Cave Spider, so spider eyes and string are what this biome hands out most.

Sulfur Caves are the only place to mine sulfur, potent sulfur, sulfur spikes and cinnabar, the blocks behind the sulfur and cinnabar building sets with their polished, brick and chiseled variants. Potent sulfur under water sends up bubbles, and over magma or lava it becomes a geyser that throws you upwards.

The sulfur cube spawns here and nowhere else. Hold out a block and it takes that block in, along with how it bounces and slides, which makes it a toy and a tool at once, and a large one can be carried off in a bucket.

On Bedrock the sulfur caves keep the same id in every menu and in /locate biome, and the same climate as on Java: temperature 0.8 with a downfall of 0.4.

Both editions got the biome in the Chaos Cubed drop, so the sulfur cube, the sulfur pools and the sulfur spikes wait underground on either one.

Sulfur Caves arrived in 26.2 with the name it still carries, and Sulfur Caves has kept it through all 2 releases since.
