Snowy Plains

A vast snowy flatland. Snow villages and igloos generate here. Some igloos have hidden basements with brewing stands.
Overview
The Snowy Plains biome is a common biome you will run into often, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as a cold biome. Its climate is freezing, so water turns to ice and rainfall falls as snow, so the Snowy Plains gets snowfall rather than rain. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 0 and the biome ID minecraft:snowy_plains.
Its defining terrain features are flat snowy terrain, scattered spruce trees, frozen lakes and igloos. A vast snowy flatland. Snow villages and igloos generate here. Some igloos have hidden basements with brewing stands.
The Snowy Plains biome was added to Minecraft in Alpha 1.2.0 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Snowy Plains you find will shift from world to world.
Where to find it
The Snowy Plains biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Snowy Taiga, Ice Spikes, Frozen River and Frozen Ocean, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.
Look for vast, flat snowfields; this is the default cold flatland and the most common cold biome.
If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:snowy_plains”, which points you to the nearest Snowy Plains and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Snowy Plains on foot: because it is common, ordinary travel through the Overworld will usually reveal one before long.
Mobs
On the peaceful side, the Snowy Plains biome is home to Rabbit. The Rabbit, for example, drops rabbit hide, raw rabbit and occasionally a rabbit's foot.
On the dangerous side of the Snowy Plains biome, watch for Polar Bear and Stray. The Polar Bear is passive but defends its cubs aggressively if you stray too close, while the Stray is a frozen skeleton that fires Slowness-tipped arrows.
Blocks & resources
The blocks that give the Snowy Plains biome its character include Snow Block, Snow and Ice. Within the Snowy Plains, Snow Block, Snow and Ice are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.
Players typically visit the Snowy Plains biome to collect wood from its trees, which makes it a worthwhile stop for that resource.
Structures & features
The Snowy Plains biome can generate a Village, a community of trading villagers with farms, an iron golem and beds, where the building palette matches the biome's wood and stone, a Pillager Outpost, a watchtower guarded by pillagers and a captain whose banner triggers the Bad Omen effect and an Igloo, a small snow shelter that sometimes hides a basement laboratory with a captured villager and zombie villager.
With Village, Pillager Outpost and Igloo all able to appear in the Snowy Plains biome, it is well worth exploring thoroughly, as each of these 3 structures offers its own loot and challenges.
