End Barrens

The outermost End biome on the edges of islands. No structures generate here. Mostly barren end stone with no chorus plants.
Overview
The End Barrens biome is a common biome you will run into often, generated in the End dimension and classed as an end biome. Its climate is a fixed, weatherless temperature with no rain or snow, so the End Barrens gets no precipitation at all and stays permanently dry. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 0.5 and the biome ID minecraft:end_barrens.
Its defining terrain features are barren end islands, edges of larger islands and void below. The outermost End biome on the edges of islands. No structures generate here. Mostly barren end stone with no chorus plants.
The End Barrens biome was added to Minecraft in 1.9 and is still generated in version 1.21. As an End biome the End Barrens floats in the void beneath a black sky with no weather of any kind.
Where to find it
The End Barrens biome generates in the End, reached only after activating an End Portal in a Stronghold. It commonly borders End Highlands, End Midlands and Small End Islands, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.
It forms the bare outer rims of the large End islands, dropping away into the void.
If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:end_barrens”, which points you to the nearest End Barrens and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the End Barrens on foot: because it is common, ordinary travel through End will usually reveal one before long.
Mobs
The hostile life of the End Barrens biome is led by Enderman. The Enderman teleports, picks up blocks and turns hostile if you look directly at its head.
Blocks & resources
The blocks that give the End Barrens biome its character include End Stone. Within the End Barrens, End Stone is the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.
Structures & features
No generated structures are tied to the End Barrens biome, so exploring it rewards you with its barren end islands and scenery rather than buildings to loot. Any End structures you find will belong to the neighbouring outer-End islands rather than to the End Barrens itself.
