Savanna

The Savanna biome is a common biome you will run into often, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as a warm biome. Its climate is extremely hot and arid, so it never rains here, so the Savanna gets no precipitation at all and stays permanently dry. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 2 and the biome ID minecraft:savanna.

Its defining terrain features are acacia trees, tall grass, flat terrain and coarse dirt patches. Flat terrain with acacia trees. It never rains here. Llamas and horses spawn naturally. Savanna villages use acacia wood.

The Savanna biome was added to Minecraft in 1.7.2 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Savanna you find will shift from world to world.

The Savanna biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Plains, Desert, Savanna Plateau and Windswept Savanna, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.

Look for flat, dry, orange-tinted grassland studded with flat-topped acacia trees.

If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:savanna”, which points you to the nearest Savanna and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Savanna on foot: because it is common, ordinary travel through the Overworld will usually reveal one before long.

On the peaceful side, the Savanna biome is home to Cow, Pig, Sheep, Chicken, Horse, Donkey and Armadillo. The Cow, for example, drops leather and beef and can be milked with a bucket. Together they make the Savanna a useful place to gather food, leather and other animal drops.

On the dangerous side of the Savanna biome, watch for Llama. The Llama spits at attackers and can be linked into caravans with leads.

The blocks that give the Savanna biome its character include Acacia Log, Acacia Leaves, Coarse Dirt and Tall Grass. Within the Savanna, Acacia Log, Acacia Leaves, Coarse Dirt and Tall Grass are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.

Players typically visit the Savanna biome to collect wood from its trees, which makes it a worthwhile stop for that resource.

The Savanna biome can generate a Village, a community of trading villagers with farms, an iron golem and beds, where the building palette matches the biome's wood and stone and a Pillager Outpost, a watchtower guarded by pillagers and a captain whose banner triggers the Bad Omen effect.

With Village and Pillager Outpost all able to appear in the Savanna biome, it is well worth exploring thoroughly, as each of these 2 structures offers its own loot and challenges.
