Snowy Slopes

The Snowy Slopes biome is an uncommon biome that takes a little searching to find, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as a cold biome. Its climate is freezing, so water turns to ice and rainfall falls as snow, so the Snowy Slopes gets snowfall rather than rain. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of -0.3 and the biome ID minecraft:snowy_slopes.

Its defining terrain features are steep snowy mountainsides, powder snow layers and packed ice. Steep mountainsides covered in snow with hidden powder snow patches. Igloos can generate on snowy slopes. Watch out for powder snow traps.

The Snowy Slopes biome was added to Minecraft in 1.18 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Snowy Slopes you find will shift from world to world.

The Snowy Slopes biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Frozen Peaks, Jagged Peaks, Grove and Meadow, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.

These are the steep snow-and-ice flanks between a mountain's treeline and its peak.

If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:snowy_slopes”, which points you to the nearest Snowy Slopes and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Snowy Slopes on foot: because it is uncommon, ordinary travel through the Overworld will usually reveal one before long.

On the peaceful side, the Snowy Slopes biome is home to Rabbit. The Rabbit, for example, drops rabbit hide, raw rabbit and occasionally a rabbit's foot.

On the dangerous side of the Snowy Slopes biome, watch for Goat. The Goat rams entities off ledges and drops a goat horn when it charges into a block.

The blocks that give the Snowy Slopes biome its character include Snow Block, Powder Snow, Stone and Packed Ice. Within the Snowy Slopes, Snow Block, Powder Snow, Stone and Packed Ice are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.

The Snowy Slopes biome can generate an Igloo, a small snow shelter that sometimes hides a basement laboratory with a captured villager and zombie villager and a Pillager Outpost, a watchtower guarded by pillagers and a captain whose banner triggers the Bad Omen effect.

With Igloo and Pillager Outpost all able to appear in the Snowy Slopes biome, it is well worth exploring thoroughly, as each of these 2 structures offers its own loot and challenges.
