Forest

One of the most common biomes. Great source of wood early game. Both oak and birch trees generate here.
Overview
The Forest biome is a common biome you will run into often, generated in the Overworld dimension and classed as a temperate biome. Its climate is mild and temperate, so the Forest gets rainfall. In technical terms the game tracks it with a temperature value of 0.7 and the biome ID minecraft:forest.
Its defining terrain features are dense oak and birch trees, hilly terrain and grass and flowers. One of the most common biomes. Great source of wood early game. Both oak and birch trees generate here.
The Forest biome was added to Minecraft in Alpha 1.2.0 and is still generated in version 1.21. Like all Overworld biomes it is shaped by the surrounding temperature and humidity, so the exact borders of any Forest you find will shift from world to world.
Where to find it
The Forest biome only generates in the Overworld. It commonly borders Plains, Birch Forest, Flower Forest, Dark Forest and River, so finding any of those is a good sign you are close.
Head toward any dense cluster of mixed oak and birch trees at moderate temperature.
If cheats or operator permissions are available, the fastest method is the command “/locate biome minecraft:forest”, which points you to the nearest Forest and gives its coordinates. Without commands you have to explore for the Forest on foot: because it is common, ordinary travel through the Overworld will usually reveal one before long.
Mobs
On the peaceful side, the Forest biome is home to Cow, Pig, Sheep and Chicken. The Cow, for example, drops leather and beef and can be milked with a bucket. Together they make the Forest a useful place to gather food, leather and other animal drops.
On the dangerous side of the Forest biome, watch for Wolf. The Wolf can be tamed with bones to become a loyal combat pet.
Blocks & resources
The blocks that give the Forest biome its character include Oak Log, Birch Log, Oak Leaves, Birch Leaves, Lily of the Valley, Rose Bush, Peony and Lilac. Within the Forest, Oak Log, Birch Log, Oak Leaves and Birch Leaves are the most useful to gather early, whether for building, crafting or decoration.
Players typically visit the Forest biome to collect wood from its trees and flowers for dyes, which makes it a worthwhile stop for stocking up on several resources at once.
Structures & features
No generated structures are tied to the Forest biome, so exploring it rewards you with its dense oak and birch trees and scenery rather than buildings to loot. Generation that ignores biome boundaries, such as mineshafts, dungeons and the occasional stronghold, can still be dug up beneath the Forest.
