NETHER BIOMES

A hellish dimension accessed through Nether Portals. Features unique biomes with dangerous mobs and valuable resources. 5 biomes in this dimension.

What the Nether is

The Nether is five biomes, and all five behave in ways nothing in the Overworld does. There is no weather, so nothing falls from the sky, and all five sit at temperature 2, the top of the scale, which is why water placed here disappears instead of flowing. Every one of the five is common: once you are through a portal you are always in one of them, and none is a lucky find.

Nether Wastes goes back to Alpha 1.2.0 and was the whole dimension for years. The other four, Soul Sand Valley, Crimson Forest, Warped Forest and Basalt Deltas, arrived together in 1.16, which is the single largest thing that ever happened to this dimension.

Mobs across these 5 biomes

Eight mobs spawn across the five biomes and six of them exist only here: zombified piglin, ghast, magma cube, piglin, strider and hoglin. Nether Wastes has the longest list with six, and unlike the Overworld there is no biome here without spawns.

Structures in the Nether

Two structures generate in the Nether, the Nether Fortress and the Bastion Remnant, and both are exclusive to it. Every one of the five biomes can carry them, so there is no dead biome in this dimension.

Comparing the five on climate gets you nowhere, because temperature, rarity and rainfall are identical across all of them. What separates them is what grows and what walks: a crimson forest is full of hoglins and a warped forest has none, and basalt deltas trade animals for terrain. That is the comparison to make here, and it is the one on each of the five pages.

Twenty-nine blocks are named across the five, and almost all of them are found in no other dimension: netherrack, soul sand, soul soil, basalt, blackstone, the two nylium types, the two fungus types and the two kinds of wart block.
