Very Rare Biomes(2)
Extremely difficult to find. You may explore for thousands of blocks before encountering one.
One of the rarest biomes. Features dramatic terracotta hoodoo pillars and spires. Great landscape for screenshots and builds.
Search near regular badlands biomes. They generate as a rare sub-biome within badlands regions. Heading south-west often helps.
One of the rarest biomes. Hostile mobs cannot naturally spawn here, making it the safest biome. Mooshrooms are exclusive to this biome. Mycelium replaces grass.
Look for islands far from mainland. They are most common as isolated ocean islands. Use a boat to explore oceans.
Rare Biomes(8)
Uncommon biomes that require some exploration to locate. Worth visiting for unique resources and scenery.
A beautiful biome featuring pink cherry blossom trees. Generates on mountain hillsides. Cherry wood has a unique pink color. Added in the Trails & Tales update.
Found on mountain slopes in temperate regions. Look for pink trees visible at a distance on mountainsides.
Features dramatic packed ice spikes towering up to 50 blocks. Packed ice does not melt and is useful for fast travel ice roads.
Found near snowy plains. Look for flat icy areas with dramatic ice pillars visible from a distance.
The most extreme terrain in the game. Features massive overhangs, floating islands, and dramatic cliffs. Previously called Shattered Savanna.
Found near regular savannas. The extreme terrain is visible from far away with dramatic cliffs and floating landmasses.
Also known as Mesa. Gold ore generates at any height here. Surface-level mineshafts with dark oak supports are exclusive to this biome. Features colorful terracotta layers.
Generate in warm regions, often near deserts and savannas. Look for the distinctive orange and red terracotta layers visible at a distance.
Badlands variant with oak trees growing on the plateaus. Coarse dirt replaces grass in some areas. Previously called Wooded Badlands Plateau.
Found as a variant of regular badlands. Look for oak trees growing on terracotta plateaus.
The primary source of bamboo. Pandas have a higher spawn rate here. Podzol covers the ground. Bamboo can be used for scaffolding and as fuel.
Found within or adjacent to regular jungle biomes. Look for dense bamboo stalks and podzol ground.
The most dangerous underground biome. Home to the Warden, which is attracted by vibrations and can deal massive damage. Ancient Cities contain unique loot including echo shards and disc fragments.
Found deep underground, usually below Y level -20. Look for sculk blocks spreading from the center of the biome.
A pale, eerie biome featuring ghostly pale oak trees and hanging moss. The Creaking mob spawns here, animated by Creaking Heart blocks hidden in trees. Part of the Pale Garden update.
Generates as a surface biome in temperate regions. Look for the distinctive pale, whitish trees among normal forests.
General Tips for Finding Rare Biomes
- 1.Use the
/locate biomecommand (requires cheats) to instantly find the nearest instance of any biome. - 2.Explore using elytra and firework rockets for the fastest travel speed across large distances.
- 3.Use Nether travel (1 block in the Nether = 8 blocks in the Overworld) to cover ground quickly.
- 4.Online tools like Chunkbase allow you to input your world seed and see a map of all biome locations.
- 5.The F3 debug screen shows your current biome. Watch it while exploring to notice biome transitions.
